How to see and stop Chrome and Edge website notifications on Windows
When you allow a website (video, live streams, news, web mail and so on) to send notifications in Chrome or Edge, its notifications appear as Windows notifications in the corner of the screen.
Website notifications go to the Windows notification center
Edge website notifications appear in the corner of the screen and then in the Windows notification center, and can arrive even when Edge is closed (Microsoft Support). Chrome on Windows also shows website notifications as Windows notifications.
To check a notification you missed, press Windows key + N to open the notification center. Select a notification to open the site's page.
Neither the Chrome nor the Edge help describes a screen that lists past notifications. To find something that has left the notification center, open the site that sent it and look for the original information there.
Stop notifications from sites you don't know
If an unfamiliar site sends notifications like "Virus detected", you have allowed that site to send notifications. Turn it off in the browser.
Chrome (Chrome Help)
- Open Chrome's Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications
- Under "Allowed to send notifications", select the site you don't know and block or remove it
Edge (Microsoft Support)
- In Edge's Settings, open Site permissions > All sites
- Select the site you don't know and set Notifications to Block
Keep notifications by site
NotiRewind saves Chrome and Edge notifications separately for each site that sent them, such as YouTube or Twitch. After they leave the notification center you can still see which site sent what and when, and open the page the site attached to the notification, such as a live channel.
The site is read from Windows' notification data, so it can't always be identified. Then the notification is saved as a browser notification.
